BBC Open Air is a research and development project looking at new ways of giving you local information.
It uses software called Gears to find out where you are or if you don’t have this you can enter your location manually.
Gears is open source software developed by Google. It is currently only supported on a limited range of mobile devices. It will also work on many laptop computers.
To use Gears you need one of the following:
The following devices are currently not supported:
Gears comes preinstalled on many of the mobile devices listed above. You can check it is already installed or install it on a supported device by visiting the Google Gears website.
You can enable or disable Gears for this website through the Gears Settings menu in your browser (the location of this will vary depending on the browser you are using).
To use Gears you will also need JavaScript enabled. You can check this in your browser’s Options, Preferences or Settings (the name will vary depending on the browser you are using).
At this stage BBC Open Air only includes information from the campaign Breathing Places and the Weather service. This may explain if there are limited results for a given location.
If you have any comments or questions about using Open Air you can email openair@bbc.co.uk
