BBC Open Air is a research and development project looking at new ways of giving you local information.
It uses software called Gears to find out where you are or if you don’t have this you can enter your location manually.
This project is being run by BBC Learning Innovations to look at how programme support material can be made more relevant to where people are.
It builds on a long tradition within the BBC of providing educational materials 'beyond the broadcast’.
This first test site includes information from the campaign Breathing Places, encouraging people to get closer to nature, and from the Weather service, essential related information for anyone venturing outdoors.
The project is an opportunity to test location-finding technology and gauge users’ reactions to the way local information is presented.
The principle technology is Gears, an open source platform developed by Google for creating richer web applications, Their website includes more about Gears.
If you have any comments or questions about using Open Air you can email openair@bbc.co.uk.
